$14M For NL Foster Care

Foster care needs help in this province. I hope this new approach will solve some children’s difficult and painful situations.

The Newfoundland and Labrador government is putting $14 million into the foster home system to create a new level of care to help children with complex needs.

Charlene Johnson, the minister of child, youth and family services, announced Friday a request for proposals to develop and start a training program for the specialized foster homes.

"Level three foster homes require at least one parent to stay at home and these foster parents are to have specialized knowledge, skills and training to care for children and youth who have highly complex emotional, behavioural or medical needs," said Johnson.
