Letter To Justin Trudeau From Cardinal Collins Fails Catholic Test

It’s an interesting letter, well written and making some good and relevant points...

But that particular letter just as easily could have been written by a politician or as a letter to the editor by Joe Q. Public. In fact, since Trudeau announced his new restrictions last week there have been a multitude of Canadians who have done exactly that, weighing in on the subject, making the same points as the Cardinal, through various media, letters to the editor, blog postings, etc.

But the Cardinal is not a politician; he’s the Vicar of Christ for Toronto. He was commissioned by Christ to go after men’s souls. And what has the Cardinal said to Trudeau about his soul? Has he ever said anything to this public sinner, obstinately persisting in manifest grave sin? Has any other Catholic Bishop in Canada? Has Trudeau ever been talked to about the precarious position of his soul in light of his public support of abortion? Has he ever been denied Holy Communion? Have any steps whatever been taken by the Bishops to address the scandal caused by such anti-Catholic, anti-God, anti-life public pronouncements and positions?

And what if he becomes our next Prime Minister? What then, eminent Bishops?

Even a letter to Justin Trudeau from a fellow Catholic on the street would have demanded strong rebuke and a severe warning for the good of Trudeau’s soul, if indeed the Catholic were in tune with his faith.

Justin Trudeau, just like his father before him, is a renegade Catholic politician who claims to be a devout, practicing Catholic.

But rest assured, a great many pro-lifers in Canada will give the Cardinal high marks for sending his letter, as though he has fulfilled the duties of his office and done all a Catholic Bishop can be expected to do.

Thanks for the bone Cardinal.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

And speaking of the same, tomorrow, another 300 unborn children will be torn apart by legal abortion in Canada largely because of laws introduced and sustained by the actions and rhetoric of “faithful” Catholic politicians…while Bishops looked on.

So they mobilize to reform immigration grant even more power to a hostile state by clamoring for an increased government role in the works of mercy. They pound on pulpits to use more tax dollars for this or that charitable act failing to understand the evil in the hearts of many professional government types who seek to remake the world in a totally distinctive way…

Stand Firm Against The New Arianism

In a most succinct article Anthony Esolen pinpoints, like no other, the essence of the evil confronting the Christian today. I’ve often thought that today’s crisis in the Catholic Church over sexual ethics must be tantamount to the great Arian crisis of ages past but Esolen has framed the reality superbly in his very brief essay.

Here’s an excerpt:

Chesterton noted with his usual acuity that people who sneer at the Arian controversy—battles over a diphthong, said Gibbon—do not know what was at stake. If we believe that "God is love," not that God happens to favor us, but that in his inner life God is himself love, we owe that belief to the inflexible fidelity of Athanasius. The Christian faith could and did baptize much of the ancient pagan world. The rider upon the racing horse can lean in one direction and then in another. But sometimes a failure of the breadth of a hair can be fatal. There is no such thing as a little bit of adultery or apostasy. An innocent man's life cannot be sacred on every day of the year but one. To give up the Trinity is to give up Christ, and to give up Christ is to give up all. We might as well worship the unapproachable deity whom Chesterton called "the lonely god of Omar."

If Athanasius was mulish, let's praise the Lord for the mule, who knows what he must not do and who will not do it—who will sooner starve where he stands than move one inch. We may never budge one inch on what is essential. We will not tell a lie, even to please the world and win us the accolades of faculty bishops and historians everywhere. We will not move.

In our day, the issue is not Christology. We're not so sophisticated in our heresies. The issue is sex. We're encouraged to pretend that the child-making act is not essentially ordered to child-making. We must pretend that it's only the friction of erogenous flesh. We must pretend that a man can be made into a woman by a saw and a trowel, and a woman into a man by pinning the tail on the donkey, or by just thinking it is so. We must pretend that a child in the womb is just some stuff or other. We must pretend that boys and girls do not deserve a married father and mother, promised to one another for life. If we are Christian, we must say to Christ, "Thus far and no farther! You can have all the world, but these few inches are mine."

Local CBC coverage on the March for Life at Confederation Bldg. in St. John's, NL on May 8, 2014. There was decent coverage this year by CBC, with a short but good interview with Patrick Hanlon of Pro-Life NL and good segments on new Premier-to-be Frank Coleman, the March for Life in Ottawa and Justin Trudeau's recent statement that all Liberal MP's must vote pro-choice.

In light of my recent lengthy posting on Coleman’s surrender of Catholic credentials, this short excerpt from a likewise short article will suffice as a final epitaph to my series.

This should tell us something about our politicians, but it should also tell us much about ourselves and what we have to come to demand of our so-called leaders. We have, in a very real sense, created a special breed of hypocrite. We have systemically excluded the possibility of any real leader winning an office, because a real leader could never transform himself into the representative “prism” of pretence and hypocrisy that the office now requires.

The result? In the words of C.S. Lewis: “We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.”

Hate Speech Laws Are Making My Moral World View Illegal

Blogger Lou Iacobelli laments Canada’s obsession with equity and diversity.

So, today's malady of morally misguided compassion, sensitivity and empathy will no doubt continue to spread. Human Right Commissions and so called "hate speech" laws are making sure that there are no objective meanings to words like "truth," "arguments" and "standards." Words and actions are self-defined. "Rights" have become personalized and subjective. Should anyone question what anybody else thinks and does, there's legislated "hate speech" to silence and bring those who disagree into conformity. There's never anything wrong when everybody has a "right" to be and do whatever they want. Society has given itself the power to decouple from nature, from truth, from its past and any objective and meaningful discourse. Political correctness trumps all.

Thanks to the ready availability of Sterile Sex, we move one step closer to civilizational collapse with each passing day. Pope Benedict warned that it was dangerous to legalize contraception but of course he's just an old man who used to wear red shoes.

The 2008 financial crisis did more than wipe out billions in wealth and millions of jobs. It also sent birth rates tumbling around the world as couples found themselves too short of money or too fearful about their finances to have children. Six years later, birth rates haven't bounced back.

For those who fear an overcrowded planet, this is good news. For the economy, not so good.

We tend to think economic growth comes from working harder and smarter. But economists attribute up to a third of it to more people joining the workforce each year than leaving it. The result is more producing, earning and spending.

Now this secret fuel of the economy, rarely missing and little noticed, is running out.
