As the sun sets, Israel’s normally bustling streets begin to empty. Israelis all over the country start heading to ceremonies for Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s memorial day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror. At 8 p.m., the siren rings out. At that moment, Israelis stop what they are doing, wherever they are, and stand at attention — even if they are on the highway, they stop their cars and stand outside for 60 seconds. That siren announces the beginning of a 24-hour period of mourning.

Americans Impressed: Canada FM John Baird Meets Israeli Official in East Jerusalem

It seems Canada is one of the few Western nations that have managed to keep an objective eye in regard to relations with Israel. So many other nations at the moment, including the USA, are playing the pro-Palestinian card, regardless of facts and history. Kudos to Canada.

Defying the advice of his diplomatic corps based in Israel, Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird did what officials from other countries won’t do. That is, meet an Israeli official in East Jerusalem.

During his visit to Israel this week, Baird met with Israeli Justice Minister Tzipi Livni at the Justice Ministry offices which are located in East Jerusalem. Livni was tapped by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to oversee the peace process with the Palestinians. Officials say this was the subject of their meeting.

Israel turned it around on these vultures. The Anti-Israel Anonymous opIsrael website was hacked by Israel. It now plays the Israeli national anthem. heh

Is a Jesuit Pope Good for the Jews?

The Jesuits’ history with the Jews has been rocky, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t celebrate the ascent of Francis.

Yet surely the election of a pope must also have implications for the Jews—or so we Jews are accustomed to thinking. In this case, it happens to be true. Throughout history, the Jesuits’ relationship with the Jews has been anything but smooth sailing. And yet, in recent decades we have seen a completely new attitude—so much so that Jews should be celebrating the ascent of Francis, who has had close ties with the Jewish community of Argentina, where he has attended synagogue and co-authored a book with an Argentinian rabbi.
